Mediators of Cellular Aging and Cancer

Connecting Science and Medicine

Despite the tremendous strides made over the past two decades in our understanding of the basic mechanisms and cellular networks as well as the technological advances in the early detection and treatment of cancer, a lot more needs to be done for the early detection, better prognosis and improvement in patient survival rates.  What has emerged over the recent years is the realization that, in addition to the genetic factors associated with the transformed phenotype; epigenetic events, chronic inflammation, immune evasion, cell state transition as well as redox and mitochondrial metabolism play a critical role in the process of oncogenesis and its progression.  Notably, experimental evidence also implicates the cell state such as EMT-MET and senescence in the oncogenic process.  Keeping in view these recent advances, the overall theme of this symposium, “Mediators of Cellular Aging and Cancer: Connecting Science and Medicine” aims to bring together a distinguished panel of international as well as local researchers and clinicians with a myriad of expertise across cancer and cellular aging to discuss the recent scientific developments and their therapeutic relevance.
